Matt Seracen Needs a Hug

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, Season 2
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, Season 2

So here I am, going about my Friday night: My pizza has arrived, and I’m settled with food and some sangria, watching Friday Night Lights.

Matt’s not been doing well since Julie broke up with him for “the Swede” – something that is still beyond fathomable for me. Although I didn’t really like Carlotta, I could deal with her because she was making his life better. Then she left, and he crashed.

Last night’s episode, when Coach grabbed Matt and threw him into the shower, it was painfully real, down to the Matt clocking his head on the way down to the bath tub.

Then, in the span of a few seconds, with Matt’s semi-drunken/hungover rant wondering about all the people who left him – his dad, Julie, Coach when he accepted the college job last year, and now Carlotta – the kid we knew from season one (and all that pain) thundered back. “What is wrong with me?” (OMG! Nothing! And that he feels this way and doesn’t have anyone to turn to is tragic.)

As it all “clicked” with the Coach, the anger just drained from his face, especially when he realized he was on that list of people who had hurt this kid who is dealing with so much more than any 16-year-old kid should have on his plate.

Wow. Just… wow. I LOVE this show, top to bottom.
