I Would (DID!) Drive 500(+) Miles…

Kitty-mon Convalescing - March 11, 2014

NOT one of the better fortnights, but both the cat and I are still here and determined.

After last January’s bout of not taking care of her business, Josie was doing okay, and we had managed to bring her weight back up. Then she gradually stopped eating a second time, so I brought her to the vet. Fluids plus an anti-nausea shot seemed to do the trick — until they didn’t — and we stopped back at the vet’s for anti-nausea pills the following Saturday. On Sunday, when I tried to retrieve her from under the bed, Kitty-mon lived up to her “monster” suffix and bit me for the first time in her 17+ years. 😢

Her appetite didn’t improve during the next few days, so we had to go back to the vet (yet again). She ended up staying for blood tests, fluids, and more over the course of the next five days. The vet and I had the talk before I left her there on Thursday because things didn’t look good. I went home and stressed out.

The next morning, I dragged my mom along to the scheduled visiting hour, and Josie looked better. She was responding well to her treatment and super feisty on Saturday.

On Monday, they gave Kitty-mon the thumbs up to go home — after I learned how to administer the subcutaneous fluids she will need twice a week. She’s eating whole (small) cans of cat food now. She shouldn’t be doing this (relatively) well, but the vet agrees that her strong, stubborn will is positively affecting her condition.

I know Josie’s an old cat, but if she wants to stick around — like she wants to stick around, so far — then I’ll make sure she has that chance. Even if it means another 500 miles on my truck and cringing when it’s time to pay the bill. >^..^<
